The board (50 x 50 cm with 5 x 5 cm squares) is made of walnut and goes perfectly with the set.
Today I bought a 17 inch green vinyl chess set. It's a great product - I love it! The perfect, better and premium vinyl checkerboard ???? My father and I enjoy playing chess every day - sometimes I win, sometimes he does - it's a lot of fun to play with a top quality chess set. On both the World Chess and RCM boards, the frame appears to be made of solid wood, but I think they use a plywood base under the squares. Carlsen won the tournament and hasn't used a different chess game in any of his championship games. Before the World Chess Championship set could be used in matches, it had to be approved by FIDE, the sport's governing body. The set immediately attracted media attention and appeared in influential design magazines.
It is then shipped to World Chess facilities in London and Berlin for further inspection before being sent to buyers. The set was designed by Daniel Weil from Pentagram for World Chess and has since become one of the most iconic chess designs in the world.
